Route 66 Neon Tour
with ABQ Trolley Co.
516 ARTS is pleased to collaborate with the ABQ Trolley Co. and the City's Public Art & Urban Enhancement Program on a special Route 66 Neon Tour. Friends of the Orphan Signs exhibit curator Ellen Babcock says, "Sign shop owners of the past considered some of theirs signs to be works of art and competed with one another for the most impressive signs. The handiwork and craft involved in the irregular sign shapes and the fluid neon lines of the older signs are largely missing from the rectangular, digital prints on vinyl that are common now."
Join neon and Route 66 aficionados and trolley tour guides for a historical and anecdotal tour of one of Albuquerque's most unique collections of cultural assets. Come along to see some of the best, old and new. This special ABQ Trolley Co. tour is by reservation only and tickets can be purchased online. The tour will depart from Historic Old Town and travel along Central Avenue in both directions for a rich and colorful neon experience.
