FAQS: More information about this auction and the bidding process:

What is this auction about and who does it benefit?
This is the first annual Studio Sale in the Gallery Auction presented by 516 ARTS and features both an Online and Silent component to the Auction process. It includes one artwork from each participating artist in the Studio Sale in the Gallery fundraising exhibition (May 2 – 9), as well as five vintage Tamarind prints from the collection of Holly Roberts to benefit 516 ARTS and the artists.

How can I bid on these items?
The process requires a simple online registration in order to become a participating bidder. Once complete, each registered participant will be assigned a unique bidder number with which to place bids. You can Register Here.

Why is my payment information not requested when I submit my Registration to Bid?
The Online Auction does not include an automatic payment system. Your payment information will be collected after the designated bidding period ends if yours is the winning bid. By registering and placing your bid, you are consenting to have your payment collected at that time. All bids are considered final at the conclusion of the Silent Auction at 7:30pm, May 2. This Online Auction is conducted in good faith between 516 ARTS and participating bidders.

Once registered, when can I place bids?
Bidding for the Online Auction is open beginning Saturday, April 18 at 9am and closes on Friday, May 1 at 5pm. The highest bids will be transferred to the Silent Auction in person at the opening reception at the gallery on Saturday, May 2. The Silent Auction will begin in person from 6pm to 7:30pm at the physical location of 516 ARTS. Members of 516 ARTS are invited to bid early for the Silent Auction during the Friends of 516 ARTS preview reception from 5-6pm, May 2.

How are bids accepted during the Online Auction?
Bids may be placed quite simply by EMAILING or CALLING your bid into the gallery. The only information you must include is your BIDDER NUMBER + ARTIST NAME + BID PRICE along with the DAY + TIME (if placing a call through voicemail after hours). Bids are acceptable 24 hours a day between 9am, April 18 – 5pm, May 1, and will be recorded in the order in which they are received. Please note, bids placed by email or in a voicemail after 5:30pm may not appear in an update on the auction web page until 9am the following morning. All bids will be recorded in Mountain Standard Time (MST).

What is the difference between the Online Auction and the Silent Auction, and how will it work?
The Online Auction will feature the specific items up for auction on a web page between the dates of April 18 – May 1 in advance of the Opening Reception and Auction Finale on May 2. The Online Auction serves for early bidding in advance of the Opening Reception and "online bidding" will close at 5pm on Friday, May 1. The highest bids as of 5pm on May 1 will be transferred to the Silent Auction at the Opening Reception at the gallery on May 2. The Silent Auction will feature the same items up for auction on the web page and will be displayed live and in person in the front gallery at 516 ARTS. Bidding sheets featuring the current highest bid transferred from the "online bidding" will be displayed with each item, at which time bidding will recommence in a Silent Auction format during the Opening Reception at the gallery, beginning at 5pm for Members and 6pm for the general public.

When does bidding close?
For early bidding "online" between April 18 – May 1, "online bidding" will close at 5pm on Friday, May 1. Any bids made after 5pm on May 1 will be considered void and ineligible. The highest bid from the Online Auction will then be transferred to the Silent Auction in person at the gallery on May 2. Bidding during the Silent Auction (Auction Finale) ends at 7:30pm.

Can I participate in the Silent Auction and not the Online Auction?
Yes! Bidding will remain open during the Silent Auction in person on May 2 for continued bidding on items. You may register in person at the gallery on May 2 to obtain a bidding number and place bids during the event.

I can't make it to the Opening Reception and Silent Auction on May 2, but placed an online bid, how do I know if I have a winning bid?
If you cannot be physically present at the end of the Silent Auction at 7:30pm on May 2, and your bid is the highest (i.e. the winning bid), 516 ARTS will notify you within 24 hours and include instructions for making payment and receiving your artwork. These instructions continue even if you bid online and that bid remains the highest through both the Online and Silent Auction, which officially ends at 7:30pm on May 2.

I have placed a bid during the Online Auction by emailing or calling it into the gallery as instructed, how do I know if my bid is the highest?
All bids will be recorded in the order in which they are received, and current highest bids will be recognized and updated continuously on the website (www.516arts.org/auction). If your bid is the highest, it will appear as the "current bid" listed below the item you bid on and be identified with your unique bidder number. A date and time stamp will appear next to the bid according to the day and time it was received by email, phone or in voicemail message. If you are outbid, the new highest bid and bidder number will replace the old highest bid. We encourage checking the website frequently.

Will I receive a confirmation of my bid once placed?
Yes, if you emailed your bid, you will receive an email reply. If you call in your bid and speak to 516 ARTS staff, you will have immediate confirmation, if you call in and leave the information in a voicemail, you will receive a return call at our earliest possible opportunity confirming receipt of the message. Please note, only the current highest bids will be recognized and continuously updated on the auction web page.

Will I be notified if I have been outbid?
This auction process is being manually maintained by the human staff at 516 ARTS, and not by an automated system. Unfortunately, you will not receive notifications if you have been outbid. We encourage active bidders to frequently check the auction web page to find the latest updates on active bids.

I have a winning bid, when and how do I pay for the item?
Payment for winning bids will be collected immediately following the close of the Silent Auction, at 7:30pm on May 2. Winning bidders who are present at the time of the auction closing can finalize payment immediately by cash, check or credit card. If you have a highest bid that was transferred from the Online Auction over to the Silent Auction and remains the winning bid at 7:30pm on May 2 and you are not able to be present at the Silent Auction, 516 ARTS will notify you within 24 hours and include instructions for making payment and receiving artwork.

When can I pick up the item I won?
Winning bidders may pick up artwork from 516 ARTS between 12-5pm on Saturday, May 9, which is the final day of the Studio Sale in the Gallery event. The auction items and their final winning bids will remain on display at the gallery during the week of the event and can be picked up on the last day, May 9.

What if I am not in the Albuquerque area and need the item shipped to me?
Arrangements can be made for shipping items to winning bidders who are not in the Albuquerque area. Separate shipping charges will apply for this service. Arrangements will include every effort to ship the item with a secure and economical method using a commercial shipper, or with the specific requests of the winning bidder.

If I have more questions, who do I contact?
Feel free to contact the staff at 516 ARTS at 505-242-1445, or Rhiannon Mercer, Associate Director at rhiannon@516arts.org
