Fires of Change

May 27, 2017 – July 22, 2017

May 27 - July 22, 2017

In late 2014, as a precursor to the exhibition, the ten participating artists attended Fire Science Bootcamp, a week-long, educationally immersive trip through the forests of Northern Arizona. A team of nationally regarded fire scientists and forest managers offered their insight, experience and training on the impact of wildfire in Northern Arizona. The resulting works comprising this exhibition were created in response to experiences during the Fire Science Bootcamp. Produced in partnership with Southwest Fire Science Consortium (SWFSC) and the lanscape Conservation Initiative at Northern Arizona University, the exhibition debuted at the Coconino Center for the Arts in Flagstaff, Arizona and travelled to the University of Arizona Museum of Art in Tuscon before coming to 516 ARTS in Albuquerque this summer. Featured artists were from Arizona and across the country. Participating artists include Kathleen Brennan, Saskia Jordá, David Chorlton, Helen Padilla, Craig Goodworth, Bonnie Peterson, Bryan David Griffith, Katharina Roth, Jennifer Gunlock and Steven Yazzie.

Fires of Change was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Joint Fire Science Program.
