OneBeat Visual Artists
In celebration of OneBeat X - 10th Anniversary Celebration, a global music festival, 516 ARTS presents Intra-Relating featuring selected visual artists who are engaging the expansive space of the Albuquerque Railyards Blacksmith Shop. Their 3-dimensional installations address themes of interconnectivity among all life on a global scale, spanning humans, more-than-humans, land, water, and sustainability.
In her book Meeting the Universe Halfway, Karen Barad says, “To be entangled is not simply to be intertwined with another, as in the joining of separate entities, but to lack an independent, self-contained existence. Existence is not an individual affair. Individuals do not preexist their interactions; rather, individuals emerge through and as part of their entangled intra-relating.”
Artists include visiting OneBeat artists Xuan and Chris Williams, along with New Mexico artists Ellen Babcock, Dante Biss-Grayson Halleck (Osage), Dason Culver, Lance Ryan McGoldrick, Billy Joe Miller & Joni Tobin, Jazmin Novak (Diné), video mapping students from NMHU Media Arts program, and performances by comedian and juggler from Denver Sam Malcolm (Paiute-Shoshone), among others.

Ellen Babcock, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Ellen Babcock draws inspiration from landscapes and a panoply of scavenged or re-used materials to create sculptures and installations. She is an Associate Professor of Sculpture at the University of New Mexico and the founding director of Friends of the Orphan Signs.

Dason Coyote Culver, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Dason Coyote Culver is a multi-media artist focusing on murals and immersive installations. Culver creates environments that challenge perceptions, question reality, and manifest change. These environments are playful narratives revealing commonalities within the human experience while connecting us at a sacral root.

Dante Biss-Grayson Halleck (Osage) Taos, New Mexico
“The “Digital Spirit Dancer” is a holographic projection reflecting the parallels between the Spirit world and the Physical Realm. The ceremony of the dance connects us to the spirit world. The piece is the journey of the person who sheds the mortal coil and is connected to the spirit world. A cycle of life, a cycle of death, all connected.“

Hourseyes makes paintings and dye works as physical manifestations of her spiritual connection to and observations of nature. Billy Joe Miller creates sculptures, installations, and public art in response to the natural world.

Lance Ryan McGoldrick, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Lance Ryan McGoldrick an assemblage and installation artist who is inspired by pattern and geometry. He works with wood and familiar discarded materials to create grand interactive sculptures that sometimes light up.

Sam Malcolm is an international award-winning comedian and juggler. He combines jaw-dropping skills as a juggler with rapid-fire, off-the-cuff comedy to make a show that amazes you and makes you fall over laughing.

Jazmin Novak (Diné), Santa Fe, New Mexico
With their rhythmic movement and carefree emotional state, these rabbits pay homage to happiness and harmony. The glass materials can transmit, absorb, and reflect light, resulting in a stunning display. The contrast of glass and iron works together to create rhythm and strengthen the artwork’s focus.
