516 ARTS presents a conversation with artist Josh T. Franco and Cody Hartley, director of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, moderated by co-curator Alicia Inez Guzmán, PhD. It will explore the unintentional role of charismatic artists in gentrifying communities and erasing local histories, leading to the creation of art colonies like Santa Fe, which continue to face profound real estate crises today. Franco’s engagement with this phenomenon is informed by his years of examining the impact of the late artist Donald Judd’s legacy on Marfa, Texas. Hartley will further explore Georgia O’Keeffe’s legacy and the museum’s own path toward institutional self reflection.
