After a meaningful first gathering of artist/mothers in August, we are excited to continue our conversation on a regular basis about how art practices and motherhood impact each other. We will spend our time cultivating new language together around the importance of studio practices of artists who care for children, as well as discuss critical writings on the subject.
At this meeting (Part II) we will discuss excerpts from the book, Daybook: The Journal of an Artist by Anne Truitt. Excerpts will be provided to participants upon registration.
In celebrating the powerful collaboration between art and motherhood, we hope to continue to demystify any voices that say that the two cannot thrive simultaneously. Like any other profession, women (and men) delicately balance raising their children and maintaining a serious art practice in a lot of creative ways. If you have any writings on art and motherhood that have influenced your practice, please feel free to bring the titles or texts with you. Together, we’ll discuss creative practice and mother practice, feminism, post-feminism, and methods for sustaining your work while caring for yourself and those you love. This conversation will be facilitated by artist/mother Mira Burack.
